When the actual movement of the Red Army on the main roads became difficult and finally stopped completely, they tried to advance from outside the roads by bringing ski troops to help their own troops. Finns became familiar with one and feared division Dolin's ski brigade.
The gathering started a special series of events, which will have its equal in the entire Finnish Winter War. In Russia, even to this day, people wonder where their ski brigade of a couple of thousand valuables disappeared in just a few days.

Suomussalmen taistelujen suomalaiset sankarivainajat ovat esillä teoksen loppuosassa taistelu- yksiköittäin aakkosjärjestyksessä. Kaatuneiden listan lopusta löytyvät myös kadonneiksi tai tuhoutuneiksi kirjatut sankarivainajat sekä Neuvostoliitossa teloitetut suomussalmelaiset sotavangit.

The separate sections of the book deal with the fates of civilians caught up in the war and the evacuation of local residents, as well as the suffering experienced by civil war prisoners. Kuhmon talvisodan päättymisestä on kulunut kahdeksan täyttä vuosikymmentä. Tapahtumien ja aineiston laajuuden vuoksi olen jakanut Kuhmon talvisodan monivaiheiset tapahtumat luettavuuden helpottamiseksi viiteen eri teokseen otsikolla TALVISOTA KUHMOSSA - Kuolema kolkuttaa korvessa. Tämä 1,460-sivuinen teossarja perustuu alkuperäiseen esikoisteokseeni Kuoleman kujanjuoksu, joka julkaistiin Kuhmossa 2006.

Joukot, jotka oli pahimman hädän hetkellä koottu eri puolilta Suomea, sotivat kotipaikkakunnastaan riippumatta ankarissa ääriolosuhteissa menestyksellisesti ja näyttivät vajavaisista varustuksistaan ja pikakoulutuksestaan huolimatta osaamisensa osoittaen niin miesten kuin naistenkin keskuudessa ainutlaatuista uhrimieltä.
Yhteiskunnalliseen asemaan katsomatta, koti, uskonto ja isänmaa yhdistivät niin miehet kuin naisetkin samalle yhteiselle asialle taisteluun itsenäisyyden ja vapauden puolesta. Tästä sisäisestä tunnosta rakentui kaikkia yhdistävä unohtumaton ja ainutlaatuinen talvisodan henki.
Suomalaisjoukot käyvät ankaraa kamppailua Puna-armeijan uutta jalkaväkidivisioonaa vastaan Löytövaaran taisteluissa ja pilkkovat samalla Saunajärven suurmottia pienempiin osiin.
Teoksen sisältö seuraa tiiviisti niin suomalaisdivisioonan kuin vihollisjoukkojen ja erillisten taisteluosastojen
sekä yksittäisten miesten näkökulmasta sotarintaman päivittäisiä tapahtumia.
Ratkaisua haetaan yhä kiivaammin ja taistelut ääriolosuhteissa jatkuvat aina maaliskuulle saakka. Neuvostojoukkojen ylivoima kasvaa kasvamistaan ja suomalaiset joutuvat entistä ahtaammalle.
Lopulta kahdenväliset neuvottelut johtavat aselepoon ja rauhaan. Edessä on sodan jälkiselvittelyä ja suomalaisittain todella vaikeita päätöksiä, kuten muun muassa maa-alueitten pakkoluovutuksia.
Tuhojen jälkeen alkaa taistelualueiden laajamittainen siivoustyö ja myöhemmin vielä vaativa jälleenrakennusvaihe
ja asuttaminen. Kuhmon itäosissa asuneiden paluu arkeen oli ankea. Vain pystyyn jääneet savupiiput muistuttivat ajasta ennen sotaa.
Sisältö esittelee massiivisia neuvostojoukkoja ja heidän taustojaan sekä sivuaa Puna-armeijan käymää ankaraa kamppailua Kuhmon taisteluissa ja heidän sietämättömiä olojaan rintamalla.
Ajautuessaan motteihin he joutuivat vieraalla maalla ainaisen nälän ja kylmän lisäksi kestämään myös täysin epäinhimillisiä olosuhteita jatkuvassa suomalaispuristuksessa.
Neuvostosotilaat, jotka onnistuivat selviytymään hengissä rauhan tuloon saakka, eivät varmaankaan osanneet odottaa jääkylmää vastaanottokomiteaa kotimaassaan.
Suuri osa kotiin palanneista tuomittiin kenttätuomion saaneina maanpettureina ilman armoa välittömästi ammuttaviksi. Moni teloituksista selvinneistä passitettiin menolipun kanssa vankileireille, jotka nielaisivat tuhansittain miehiä lopulliseen kadotukseen. Vain harva heistä palasi enää takaisin.
Veljeskansan vapauttajien kohtalo ei todellakaan ollut kadehdittava.
Kansien välistä löytyy lisäksi myös runsaasti erilaisia tilastoja neuvostoliittolaisten osalta, kuten muun muassa suurarmeijan sotilaiden kalustoa sekä heidän erilaisia aseitaan ja varusteitaan. Mukana on myös yksittäisten venäläissotilaiden paljon puhuvia kommentteja sekä ilmavoimien lentäjien karuja kohtaloita.
Teoksen alussa käydään tiivistettynä läpi tähän asti vähemmän esille tullutta Lieksan suuntaa, jossa käytiin ankaraa kamppailua Kuhmoon hyökänneen kenraalimajuri Gusevskin divisioonan eteläisen sivusuunnan hyökkäysjoukkoja vastaan.
Lieksan suunnan torjuntavoitto oli ratkaisevan tärkeä onnistuminen suomalaisille, jotka saivat lopulta ajettua vihollisen itärajan taakse. Tämän jälkeen voitiin rintamasta irrottaa miehiä muihin tehtäviin.
Suomalaiset pääsivät pikaisesti keskittämään Lieksasta vapautuvia täydennysjoukkoja miesvajeesta kärsineelle Kuhmon rintamalle.
Sisällössä käsitellään suomalaisen sotilaskoulutuksen alkuvaihetta ja sen kehityskaarta ennen talvisotaa sekä yhteenvetona sodan jälkeisiä mietteitä itse talvisodan tapahtumista.
Mukana on muun muassa sotapäiväkirjaotteita, ilmatorjuntaa ja väestönsuojelua sekä ilmapuolustusta.
Lisäksi on sivuttu myös Suomen armeijan taisteluyksiköitä ja niiden kalustoa, aseita, ammuksia ja tarvikkeita
sekä niiden käyttötapoja.
Koosteesta löytyy omakohtaisia suomalaissotilaiden itsensä kirjoittamia ja ennen julkaisemattomia taistelukertomuksia eri puolilta Kuhmon rintamaa. Lisäksi on esitelty Kuhmon talvisodan tutustumiskohteita.
Erillisissä koosteissa esitellään mietteitä saaduista talvisodan kokemuksista sekä kirkollisesta, henkisestä ja hengellisestä vaikuttamisesta kuten myös korvaamattomasta vapaaehtoistoiminnasta, jonka yhteydessä sivutaan lisäksi suojeluskuntien, Lottien ja Punaisen Ristin toimintaa sodan aikana. Talvisotaan osallistuneet ulkomaalaiset
on huomioitu omassa osuudessaan, kuten myös evakkoon joutuneet siviilit.
Miestappiot kasvoivat sodan edetessä aivan sietämättömiksi. Löytämäni Kuhmon taistelujen suomalaiset sankarivainajat ovat teoksen loppuosassa yksiköittäin aakkosjärjestyksessä eriteltyinä.
Sotapäiväkirjojen epätarkkuuksien ja saatavilla olleen kirjallisen aineiston laajuuden vuoksi tilastoarviot ovat tulkinnanvaraisia. Suomalaisten kaatuneiden laskentatapaan on voinut vaikuttaa myös epäselvät tilannetapahtumat sekä päällekkäiset kirjautumiset.
Joillakin miehillä saattoi olla samanaikaisesti kaksikin joukko-osastomerkintää, jotka kaatumisen jälkeen olivat kirjautuneet tilastoihin tuplana. Tulipa eteen sellaisiakin tilanteita, joissa muutamia miehiä ei virallisesti ollut olemassakaan, koska heillä ei kaatumishetkellä ollut voimassa olevaa sijoitusta merkittynä.

The content presents the massive Soviet forces and their backgrounds, and also highlights the fierce struggle of the Red Army in the battles of Kuhmo and their unbearable conditions at the front.
Drifting into the mud, they faced eternal hunger in a foreign land and in addition to the cold,
to withstand completely inhumane conditions in the continuous Finnish oppression.
The Soviet soldiers, who managed to survive until peace came, probably did not know how to expect

At the beginning of the work, we briefly go through the direction of Lieksa, which has been less exposed until now, where there was a fierce struggle against the attack forces of the southern flank
of Major General Gusevsky's division that attacked Kuhmo.
The victory against the direction of Lieksa was a crucial success for the Finns, who were finally able
to drive behind the enemy's eastern border. After this, men could be detached from the front for other tasks.
The Finns were able to quickly concentrate the reinforcements released from Lieksa on the Kuhmo front, which suffered from a shortage of men.
The content discusses the initial phase of Finnish military training and its development curve before the Winter War, as well as summarizing post-war thoughts about the events of the Winter War itself.
Included are, for example, excerpts from war diaries, anti-aircraft and civil protection, and air defense.
In addition, the combat units of the Finnish army and their equipment, weapons, ammunition and accessories, as well as their methods of use, have also been paged.
The compilation contains first-hand and previously unpublished battle accounts written by Finnish soldiers themselves from different parts of the Kuhmo front. In addition, Kuhmo winter war attractions have been presented.

As the war progressed, the casualties grew intolerable. The Finnish heroes who died in the Kuhmo battles that I found are listed in alphabetical order by unit in the rest of the book.
Due to the inaccuracies of the war diaries and the extent of the available written material, the statistical estimates are open to interpretation. Unclear situational events and overlapping registrations may also have influenced the way Finns are counted. Some men could have two troop division markings at the same time, which after the fall were entered in the statistics as a double.
There were also situations where some men officially did not even exist, because they did not have a valid placement marked at the time of the crash.
